Samkhar consists of 5 major villages. The Dzongkhag headquarter lies under this geog. The farthest village is 3 to 4 hours walk from the road head.
The main agriculture produces are maize, potato, which are in fact surplus. Other agriculture produces like radish, bean and cabbage is also produced in large quantities. Livestock products especially pork is produced in substantial quantities. Paddy is followed by wheat in wetlands in some villages.
The geog has an area of 90.9 sq. km and is bordered by Shongphu, Kanglung, Bartsham, Yangneer and Khaling geogs and is located in northeast of Trashigang and Trashigang dzong is located within the geog.
