Familiarization Tour to Merak and Sakteng Gewogs

Dasho Lungten Dorji, Dzongdag, Dzongkhag Administration, Trashigang headed his next familiarization tour to Merak and Sakteng gewogs that lasted for seven days,i.e 22nd -28th June 2009 . He covered the first two gewogs to Thrimshing and Kangpara under Thrimshing Dungkhag Administration.

The meeting in Merak was attended by the Public, Geog Staffs and students of Merak Primary School while in Sakteng, it was attended by Dungkhag Officials geog extension staffs, teachers and public.

The meeting began with thanking of Dungkhag, Geog Administrations and public for their efforts for arrangements for his visit. It was followed by stating the objectives of Dasho’s visit which were to familiarize with the situation of the geog and to find out what can be done for the development of the geog. The visit as stated by Dasho was also to study the strengths and weaknesses presented by the location and topography of the geog.

Dasho explained the location and size of our country emphasizing on the importance of preserving age old culture and tradition. Bhutan’s existence as an independent nation between two giant countries, he said was attributed to the unique culture and tradition which acts as a weapon for security of our nation. Dasho also mentioned on the importance of unity and integrity in the community. It was followed by talk on following subjects:

1.Gross National Happiness
2.Introduction of Parliamentary Democracy
3.Agriculture/Livestock/Forestry Development
4.Culture and Tradition
5.Health(HIV/AIDs, Swine flu, family planning, alcohol& drugs)
6.Education and Tourist visiting the gewogs.

In his concluding remarks, Dasho once again reminded the public that Bhutan is a small country. Despite its size and location its people live in peace as if a family in a household. This he said was all because of the tireless efforts of the hereditary monarchs which we should never forget. He also reminded them of ""THA DAM TSHIG and LAY JUMDREY"" which we believe in and makes us unique from the other world.
