Back ground

The Dzongkhag Health Sector has 2 hospitals (Trashigang and Riserboo), 5 Grade I BHUs, 20 Grade II BHUs, 3 Sub Posts and 60 Outreach clinics. There are 6 Traditional Medicine units distributed equitably giving people a better choice of service. The services are sustained with at least 90 percent of population living within 3 hours from health facility. The care is structured into three tiered health system with hierarchy ascending from outreach clinics to BHUs at primary level, District hospital at secondary level and referral to regional hospitals at tertiary level.

Strategies

Elderly Care:

  • Line listing of citizens above 60 years old
  • Conduct screening for life style related diseases and other diseases.
  • To provide Home Care services for Needy elderly.

Non-Communicable Disease:

  • Conduct NCD clinic once in a week in hospitals and BHU grade II
  • Screening for Blood Sugar, BP, BMI
  • Awareness campaign during Clinics, Social gatherings, Monasteries and Dratshangs.
  • Provide Health Education on Non communicable Diseases.

Mother and Child Health:

  • Provide Antenatal and Postnatal Care for all pregnant women
  • Educate pregnant mothers on dietary habits, 5 danger signs of pregnancy, breast feeding and colostrum feeding.
  • Promote exclusive breast feeding for 6 monthsfor infants.
  • Provide and promote timely immunization of children.
  • Provide Care for Child Development.
  • Provide Integrated Management of Neonatal and Child Illness.
  • Provide Emergency Maternal and Obstetric Care.
  • Promote Importance of 1000 Golden Days for Child.

Water and Sanitation:

  • Conduct regular water analysis (Fecal coliform and turbidity).
  • Follow up on chlorination of Water tank.
  • Education on Safe drinking water and Hand Washing Technique.
  • Proper use of toilets and management of waste disposal.

Alcohol

  • Advocate on harmful effects alcohol use.
